Lawlessness

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 2 Thessalonians 2:7

Lawless does not necessarily mean no laws at all. It refers to that system that has no regard for true law , or God's laws. True law is replaced with their laws which they make as they see fit and as serves their purposes.

God's laws can be summed up as, "Love others as you love yourself," or "Treat others the way you want to be treated." early courts put it this way:

"These are the precepts of law: To live honourably; to hurt nobody; to render to everyone his due." (Inst. 1, 1, 3; B1, Comm. 40. - a maxim of law).

What lawlessness does is replace these simple principles with millions of codes, regulations, statutes, and acts which, in reality, act to bind up our activities and God-given rights. Rather than freedom, we are reduced to doing only those activities licenced or sanctioned by these lawless law-givers.

Slowly, over time, their control is strengthened. We who are older well remember when we could go fishing anytime we wanted and keep whatever we caught. Not today. we are told we need to purchase the privilege with the accompanying restrictions of species, size and quantity. What's happened to boating, having a pet dog, and getting married? Licenced activities.

Where murder is forbidden by God's laws it is now sanctioned by the lawless through their statutes, as is euthanasia.

Where God's laws are clear, "God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts." The lawless not only sanction these lewd acts they encourage them through today's public education system.

There are already rumblings of "legalizing" sex with consenting children.

I fear we're seeing changes that would have caused those of Sodom and Gomorrah to blush.

Where God's laws punish those who have harmed others, the lawless have permitted themselves to do harm to those who might do harm to someone.

Lawlessness is already at work... and the church sits silent.
